Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to the camping trip?

This is by no means an extensive list but we recommend bringing the following items:

  • Tent (smaller tents have more options), sleeping bag, pillow
  • Camping chair
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Clothing layers for various weather conditions
  • Personal toiletries. BRING TOILET PAPER!
  • Bug spray and sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Water filter
  • Tubes for floating
  • Cooking supplies, including a stove or jet boil (people will share if you don't have one)

A friendly reminder that there are no bathrooms. Please bring what you need to be comfortable.

What do I do for water?

If you have a water filter, bring it! Otherwise there will be a gravity filter available for use. Ask Ryley for help if you need it. We do not recommend bringing too much water from home. It's not the shortest hike.

I don't like pooping in the woods. What should I do?

Poop before you leave and arrive on Saturday. Pine Point Day use area has a pit toilet you could use as well. It's about a 15 minute drive.

Is it pretty buggy?

Sometimes. It's hit or miss. Bring bug spray if you're concerned.

Will there be a campfire?

No, fires are currently banned in the Mt Hood area. We will respect the fire service's guidelines. Don't be the guy that burns down Buck Lake!

What is the parking situation like?

The lot is small but MOST people park on the side of the road. You will not have issues.

When should I arrive at the campsite?

You are welcome to arrive anytime starting on Friday.

How far of a hike is it to the campsite?

It is about a .5 mile hike in with a slight incline. Most people need to make about 2 trips to gather all their stuff.

My friend wants to come too, is that okay?

Yes

Is food provided or should I bring my own?

Plan to bring your own food. Others will share but that's not a survival strategy worth counting on.

Are pets allowed at the campsite?

Yes! However, do not bring your dog if they do not play nicely with others.

What activities are planned?

There are no formal activities planned but expect the following:

  • Swimming
  • Lake Beers
  • Music
  • Hikes along the lake
  • Renaming constellations

All activities are optional - you're free to relax and enjoy the outdoors at your own pace.

Is there cell phone coverage at the campsite?

No, though some people have been able to send text messages via AT&T.
